Dear Friends:
The
Minnesota Thoroughbred Association, in cooperation with the Minnesota HBPA and
Canterbury Park, is pleased to announce that we will be offering a Paddock Sale
for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, to be held at 5:00 pm. on Monday,
September 9, 2019, at Canterbury Park. Horses will be stalled in the Receiving
Barn and the sale will be held in the Canterbury Park Expo Center.
We are offering this opportunity for you to sell horses that may still be suitable for racing or those that are ready to be retired from racing and moved on to a second career. We will be marketing this sale to current racehorse owners as well as a wide variety of other disciplines. By offering a central venue and time for interested parties to view and bid on the horses, we’re hoping that it will make the lives of our Trainers a bit easier. Rather than frequent interruptions with visitors looking for horses at the end of the meet, they’ll be able to share information about the Paddock Sale and hopefully create a bit of competition between bidders.
The consignment fee will be $100 for horses consigned, with complete paperwork by September 2nd. Horses can be consigned by 6:00 p.m. on September 8th for $125. A 5% commission will be charged on the final price. The minimum bid will be $500. We want to ensure that the upset price will not deter legitimate new owners but will deter kill buyers. We will not be accepting reserves, it is the consignor’s responsibility to protect the final purchase price.
Each horse consigned will be assigned a hip number, alphabetically by Dam’s name, beginning with “A”. Late entries will be assigned hip numbers using the same method and will be sold following the earlier entries. We will be selling those horses eligible to race first, followed by horses that have been consigned as retired from racing.
A
catalog of the horse’s Past Performances will be compiled and available at the
preview and sale. A listing of consigned horses will also be available on the
MTA’s website.
Included in this packet you will find all of the paperwork necessary to consign your horses to the Sale. Please don’t hesitate to contact the MTA Office if you have any questions.
A
Public Preview, will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019, from noon until 5:00
p.m. to allow potential buyers a chance to look at the horses up close. We ask that consignors be on hand to show
their consignments. Horses may be moved into the Receiving Barn after 10:00 a.m.
on September 9th.
Purchasers
are being given the option of having a horse tested, immediately following the
sale and before it leaves the Receiving Barn. The horses will be tested as they
are following races.
